Poems for John Darnielle: Seeing Daylight

I’m a day late on this one and I hope I will catch up to my schedule even though this one started being written on time. I tried to stick with the formula JD mentions in the book, I feel like it makes things instantly relatable regardless of actual experience. Small, but relatable.

My music recommendation for today is Seeing Daylight

The weather rolls in like it owns the place.
Thick silent flakes cover the roads.
The cars slow down, way down.
And the clouds keep rolling and rolling.

The upstairs neighbors try to invade through the ceiling.
The heater gurgles unseen tropical rivers.
And outside the window the birds cling to the feeders.
And the clouds keep rolling and rolling.

It all feels so alive
I dream a waking dream
but I don’t dare to hope
for your call to arrive

The phone silently watches like a panther
with the hair thin line between us
carrying echoes of questions none of us can answer.
And the weather owns the place,
and it rolls in, it keeps rolling in.
